Fresh on the Menu Launches People’s Choice Awards

Fresh on the Menu has introduced the People’s Choice Awards to honor restaurants across the state that prioritize local ingredients and support South Carolina farmers.

Fresh on the Menu is a sister program of Certified South Carolina, created by the South Carolina Department of Agriculture, and was designed to promote restaurants that source at least 25 percent of their ingredients from within the state.

“This competition is a fun way to celebrate your favorite chefs and restaurants for their commitment to using fresh, locally sourced ingredients on their menus,” said Grace Heins, Fresh on the Menu Program Manager at the South Carolina Department of Agriculture. “By voting in the Fresh on the Menu People’s Choice Awards, diners can support businesses that champion farmers, while also encouraging other restaurants to join the movement to promote locally sourced food and our state’s farming community.”

Beginning February 3, diners can vote online daily for their favorite restaurant in each of the state’s four regions: the Lowcountry, Midlands, Pee Dee and Upstate. Voting will close February 21 and a winner in each region will be announced February 26.

In addition to the four regional awards chosen by the public, the South Carolina Department of Agriculture will also select one restaurant to receive the inaugural Martin L. Eubanks Award, which acknowledges an extraordinary commitment to supporting South Carolina farmers.
