Legionnaires from American Legion Post 193 in Chapin will lay to rest the cremated remains of six previously unclaimed veterans at the Fort Jackson National Cemetery on Friday, May 10.
US Army Veteran SSG Howard Weitzell, SSG Weitzell served in the US Army from November 24, 1975 – September 1, 1992. US Marine Corps Veteran CPL Alfred A. Scott, CPL Scott served in the US Marine Corps from June 15, 1967 – to March 22, 1970. US Air Force Veteran A1C Michael McKinney, A1C McKinney served in the US Air Force from September 30, 1975 – April 1, 1977. US Air Force Veteran A3C Harry Fee, A3C Fee served in the US Air Force from February 8, 1966 – November 18, 1066. US Air Force Veteran AB Billy R. Morelock II, AB Morelock served in the US Air Force from October 21, 1976 – December 10, 1976. US Coast Guard Veteran SN Earnest Ramsey, SN Ramsey served in the US Coast Guard from August 17 1988 – January 14, 1992.
These six veterans honorably and faithfully served their country when they were called upon to do so and they deserve to be buried respectfully with the honor and dignity they have each earned through their service. The American Legion, Patriot Guard, Vietnam Veterans of America, The Veterans of Foreign Wars and many Veterans and citizens from across the State of South Carolina will ensure that these Patriots receive the honorable and dignified interment they deserve.
The cremated remains of these six Patriots will be transported by Whitaker Funeral Home escorted to the Fort Jackson National Cemetery from Chapin American Legion Post 193 on May 10, 2024 at 10am. The American Legion, Patriot Guard Riders and other patriotic citizens wishing to participate will escort the cremains.
Chapin American Legion Post 193 Chaplain Richard Mullinax will officiate at the ceremony which begins at 11 am.
An Honor Guard from the US Army, US Marine Corps, US Air Force, US Coast Guard and American Legion Post 71, North Augusta will provide Full Military Honors. The public is encouraged to attend.
