Irmo High School has new leadership in its athletic department.
Lexington-Richland School District Five announced the hiring of Paul Calvert as the school’s Athletics Director.
He replaces Ray Canady, who retired in March and is now serving in the same capacity of newly constructed American Leadership Academy in Lexington.
“We believe that Mr. Calvert’s leadership and vision will greatly contribute to the continued success and growth of our athletics program,” Irmo principal Kaaren Hampton said. “He will work closely with our coaches, staff, and student-athletes to promote sportsmanship, fair play, and the values that sports instill in our Yellow Jackets.”
Calvert comes over from Columbia High School, where he served as AD since 2015. During his tenure, he earned multiple Sportsmanship awards from the S.C. High School League. He previously served as AD and head football coach at North/Middle High School in 2014-15.
“The opportunity to grow professionally at Irmo High School was one that I could not pass up,” Calvert said. “The rich history paired with the commitment to athletics make this position second to none for an Athletic Director. The move from 2A to 4A and the ability to focus on Athletic Administration made this position particularly appealing. The shared memories, milestones, and impact that Columbia High School has had on my career will not be forgotten.
Hampton said Calvert brings a strong background in athletic administration and his commitment to fostering a positive and inclusive environment for student-athletes.
“I’m ecstatic to join District Five as an Athletic Director for the Irmo High School Yellow Jackets,” Calvert said. “Through the leadership of Dr. Hampton, the strength of our coaching staff, and with the support of the Irmo community, we will continue our commitment to athletic and academic excellence in an environment that is second to none. Let’s go, Irmo.”
