It’s Never Too Late: Starting a Healthier Life at 60 and Beyond

by Radley West

Can you believe it’s November already? The holidays are right around the corner, and didn’t it feel like we were setting our New Year’s resolutions just yesterday? How long did they last? Be honest—did you make it through February, or did you fall into the two-week trap (because that’s the average lifespan of a New Year’s resolution)?

If you haven’t quite hit the mark yet, here’s the good news: it’s not too late! Starting something new—especially when it comes to taking better care of your health—can feel overwhelming at any age, but the truth is, every step you take toward success counts. And remember, time is the great equalizer. Every single one of us has the same 86,400 seconds each day. It’s what we do with those seconds that matters.

Don’t waste time dwelling on regrets, disappointments, or reasons why you “can’t” make a change. After all, those seconds are gone once they’ve ticked by, never to return. Days, weeks, months, and years are simply made up of all these little “right now” moments.

So, what are you doing right now? Whether you’re easing into retirement, adjusting to new routines, or wondering if your best years are behind you, let me tell you—this moment is the perfect time to start. Someone reminded me recently that people in graveyards don’t have problems. That put things into perspective. Sure, we all have our struggles, but honestly, I’d rather have a few aches and pains than the alternative, right?

Your body isn’t too broken to start living a healthier life. You’re not too old to feel better, move better, and live better. The sooner you begin, the more moments you’ll have to enjoy the benefits of a healthier, happier you!

NOTE: If you have Medicare Supplemental insurance, check to see if you qualify for one of the many fitness insurance programs. Many fitness centers in the local area accept these, which means you get your membership for FREE. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to us at Anytime Fitness for more information.
