Senior Resources has announced Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) has donated $30,000 worth of frozen boneless, skinless chicken breasts, along with sandwich buns to benefit low-income senior citizens.
Senior Resources partnered with Harvest Hope Food Bank to distribute 5-pound bags of frozen chicken breasts and bags containing 12 sandwich buns to more than 1,500 seniors throughout the state.
“For many, the pandemic has brought to light what we have known to be true in our community for a long time, that many senior citizens face food insecurity every day,” said Andrew Boozer, Executive Director for Senior Resources. “Older adults, especially those with fixed, modest incomes, should not have to choose between quality, healthy foods and paying for medicines or utilities. This donation from KFC and partnership between Senior Resources, Meals on Wheels of America, and Harvest Hope Food Bank provides a blueprint on how to work together to meet the growing food access challenges for older adults in our community.”

Meals on Wheels America teamed up with KFC to distribute the in-kind donation to local programs operating near KFC’s regional distribution centers across the country. Senior Resources received a combined total of 13,400 pounds of food from KFC, which included 222 cases of frozen chicken breasts and 432 cases of sandwich buns. Senior Resources will distribute the chicken to their clients in our Wellness Centers, Foster Grandparent program and Senior Companions program. Harvest Hope Food Bank will distribute the chicken and buns to low-income seniors currently enrolled in their Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP). The donation will help fight food insecurity not only in our community, but at Harvest Hope’s food pantries and partner agencies throughout the state.
