The Lexington County School District One Educational Foundation has recently announced the recipients of the prestigious Michelin Golden Apple Teacher Grants for the Spring 2024 semester. These awards, totaling $2,375.81, have been granted to 10 deserving teachers within Lexington County School District One, positively impacting 1,549 students across nine schools in the district.
The Educational Foundation extends its congratulations to the following outstanding educators who have been recognized for their exceptional contributions:
- Beechwood Middle School – Anne Peterson
- Carolina Springs Elementary School – Michelle Torok
- Forts Pond Elementary School – Patricia Deaver, Jennifer Dingeldein
- Midway Elementary School – Kelly Parker, Katie McKinley & Erin Willie
- Meadow Glen Elementary School – Sabra Denny
- Oak Grove Elementary School – Deborah Harmon
- Pleasant Hill Middle School – Garrick Ball
- Red Bank Elementary School – Rocky Burns
- River Bluff High School – Rachel Osmer
Generously funded by Michelin North America’s Lexington, SC site, these grants are a testament to the company’s commitment to supporting education in the local community. The Educational Foundation provides this grant opportunity to Lexington District One teachers in both the fall and spring of each school year.
Teachers are eligible to apply for grants of up to $250, empowering them to create unique educational experiences for their students. The grants play a crucial role in enabling teachers to acquire resources that enhance learning opportunities beyond the traditional school budget.
The Spring 2024 grant projects cover a diverse range of initiatives, including STEM kits for hands-on learning in math, literacy, and social science; Go Mouse Robots to enrich STEM education and foster a deeper understanding of coding and robotics; class pedometers to help students track and measure personal levels of physical activity; and books to broaden social skills instruction in self-contained classrooms and enhance behavior strategies.
Two noteworthy projects focusing on classroom gardens were also among the recipients, teaching different lessons—one focusing on Cross-Categorical Class life skills, while the other educates students about plant ecosystems and environmental sustainability.
In total, the Michelin Golden Apple Teacher Grants from the Educational Foundation have impacted 2,020 students, 17 teachers’ classrooms, and 11 schools in Lexington District One during the current school year. The Educational Foundation expresses gratitude for Michelin’s continued support and commitment to fostering excellence in education within Lexington School District One.
