The Lexington High School Boys Soccer team was once again crowned champions of its Cats Kick Cancer tournament this past weekend.

Started in 2011 to help support kids with pediatric cancer, the 3-day event has raised over $145,000. On Friday, head coach Will Gettys presented a $5,000 check to the Lexington One Educational Foundation to continue its role in granting assistance to local families battling cancer.
As for the tournament, Lexington posted wins over Dorman (4-0), Aiken (4-0), Greenwood (2-0) and Hillcrest (3-1) in the final to take home the trophy.
“It was a great team effort this weekend with every guy on the roster contributing,” he said. “The boys played with great intensity and there seems to be a good team chemistry early in the season. If we can keep that mindset and continue to improve, we have the potential to be pretty good.”
Gettys added the team raised an additional $715 from the goals scored as part of a pledge from area businesses. The Wildcats will also donate $1 from ticket sales which could add an additional $2,000 raised this past weekend.
