Tens of thousands danced in the streets at Famously Hot New Year in downtown Columbia, December 31.
The free celebration featured a concert by Salt-N-Pepa — the first female rap act to receive a Grammy and attain platinum status — a midnight countdown and the biggest New Year’s Eve fireworks display in South Carolina over the State House.
The festival environment was booming with music throughout the evening from Charleston, locals The High Divers who supported Salt-N-Pepa, and Columbia’s own funky, Cottontown Soul Society who opened.
Attendees enjoyed food from local vendors, beer, wine and bubbly amid downtown Columbia.
