At the June 13, 2023 meeting, the Lexington County School District One Board of Trustees approved the hiring of Elizabeth J. Render as the district’s new special education director. Render currently serves as the district’s coordinator for special education and in her new role, will work alongside Dr. Nicole Adams and the Special Services Department.
Render is an experienced special education teacher, with more than 32 years in education. She first stepped into the classroom in 1989 as a special education teacher at Hopkins Middle School, where she served until 1994. After a hiatus, she returned to the classroom to teach special education at Hand Middle School in 1996. In 2001, Render became a special education consultant for Richland School District One.
In 2006, Render joined the Lexington One family to serve in her current role as coordinator for special education. She has spent the last 17 years overseeing special education programs for the district.
Render earned a Bachelor of Arts in special education from the College of Charleston. She earned a Master of Arts In Teaching in elementary education, as well as a Master of Arts in rehabilitation counseling from the University of South Carolina. Render is a member of the Council for Exceptional Children, the Council for Administrators of Special Education, where she serves as the state treasurer, and the South Carolina Association of School Administrators.
