Small business owner Paul Erickson from Chapin has announced his candidacy for State
Representative in District 71 citing the need for fresh leadership and a more conservative
approach in state government.
“We need a change. I do not plan on creating a career for myself in elective office. Too many of
our current representatives have turned part-time service into full-time political careers. I see
myself as an advocate for the people, not a politician. I’d like to get involved, do good work for
my community, protect the State of South Carolina and then let others run for the office,” said
Erickson. Erickson strongly supports term limits for elected officials, the current State
Representative has been in office for 18 years.
Erickson is a fiscal conservative who believes in government accountability and transparency.
“We have seen our state budget reach record levels this year and rather than return the excess
money to the taxpayers, the General Assembly decided to spend it. That is not how government
should work,” said Erickson.
Erickson also supports the Second Amendment and the right to bear arms. He is pro-life and
believes in protecting the rights of the unborn. When it comes to education Erickson believes that
parents ought to control what is taught in the classroom, not liberal government officials. He is
against Grooming and CRT in our schools.
Erickson also believes that the government has become too involved in our everyday life. He would
like to end government mandates and restore medical freedom.
During the next days and weeks of the campaign, Paul plans on personally talking to thousands of
people and listening to their concerns about how we can make our community a better place to
live, work, and do business.
Paul has been married to his wife Kathy for 34 years and they have 4 children. He is a former
professional baseball player and served as a youth baseball and hockey coach for over 15 years.
