Richland County Government and Harvest Hope Food Bank are teaming up with the goal of significantly impacting the lives of county residents facing food insecurity.
The county is collecting nonperishable food items as part of a monthlong donation drive in June themed “Hunger Doesn’t Take a Vacation.”
Through June 28, Harvest Hope collection bins will be located at the following County facilities during business hours, Monday-Friday:
• Richland County Administration Building (2020 Hampton Street, Columbia, just past the front entrance, near the Sheriff’s Department office)
• Decker Center (2500 Decker Boulevard, Columbia, near the inside front entrance of the Sheriff’s Department complex)
• Richland County Public Works (400 Powell Road, Columbia, inside near the front entrance)
• Richland County Utilities (7525 Broad River Road, Irmo, inside near the front entrance)
• Richland County Judicial Center (1701 Main Street, Columbia, in the inside lobby next to the ATM)
Harvest Hope and Richland County will distribute the donations during a Community Distribution Day event, set for 9 am to 11 am June 28 at Columbia Place Mall, 7201 Two Notch Road, Columbia, in the Sears parking lot.

According to Feeding America, the nation’s largest hunger relief organization, nearly 35,000 Richland County residents suffer from food insecurity, or a lack of access, ability, availability or income to acquire healthy, safe, culturally appropriate food.
