Since playing soccer at Brookland-Cayce under future brother-in-law Kevin Heise, Robbie Seltzer has enjoyed coaching success.
From the lone season at the helm of the Bearcats, to stops at Gilbert and Blythewood, Seltzer led each program to region titles.
He’s now accepted the challenge of continuing that success at River Bluff. The school announced his hiring Thursday and will hold a “Meet the Coach” event in the Gator Commons area at the stadium.
Seltzer replaces Thad Miller, who was promoted in 2024 to succeed coaching legend Phil Savitz. In two seasons, the Gators went 21-17-1 overall and 9-11 in Region 4-5A under Miller.
“We are thrilled to welcome Coach Setzler to the Gator family to lead our men’s soccer program,” said Andrew Peckham, River Bluff Athletics Director in a press release. “His outstanding track record of winning championships at multiple stops as a head coach, combined with his tactical expertise and passion for student-athlete development, makes him the perfect leader to continue to move River Bluff soccer forward as a strong competitor at the highest level in the state.”
Seltzer comes over to The Swamp with a career record of 131-58-12 over 10 seasons. He just completed his seventh season at Blythewood, where he led the Bengals to three region titles, a pair of Nike Palmetto Cup championships and a 37-6-2 record the past two seasons.
Prior to Blythewood, Seltzer spent two seasons at Gilbert High School. The Indians went undefeated in region play at 14-0 in 2018 and 2019. After Heise’s resignation from Brookland-Cayce in 2017, Seltzer served as interim coach and led the Bearcats to a 19-7 record and region title.
“Coach Setzler expressed incredible honor and excitement to take the reins of the River Bluff men’s soccer program,” the press release stated. “Stepping into a program with a proud tradition of excellence, his goal is to build a culture where student-athletes can thrive competitively on the pitch while developing the character and discipline to succeed in life long after they leave the program.”
The school is holding a soccer camp on Monday.

River Bluff also announced the promotion of girls’ wrestling assistant coach Carolina Lunetta to the head position. Originally a volunteer, Lunetta has helped the Lady Gators achieve such milestones as crowning an individual state champion and two team state semifinal appearances.
“This is a special time to be a part of girls’ wrestling as it continues to grow at the high school and collegiate level throughout our state, creating new opportunities for these young athletes,” Lunetta said.
“I am excited to step into this role and continue helping our wrestlers pursue their goals both on the mat and in their lives outside of the wrestling room.”
