Back-to-back sweeps over Lexington District One rivals has the River Bluff volleyball team atop the Region 3-5A standings.
The Lady Gators opened region play by defeating White Knoll 3-0 (25-15, 25-13, 25-12). Karis Ketterling had nine of her team’s 32 kills and 11 digs, freshman Faith Jodie had 13 assists and Sarah Chettinger had nine assists and five aces.
A couple of nights later, River Bluff visited Wildcat Gymnasium to face archrival Lexington. After taking a 26-24 win in the first set, the Lady Gators went on to win by the scores of 25-17 and 25-22.
Lucy Johnson had 17 digs, Ketterling finished with 13 digs and 13 kills and Chettinger had 14 assists.
River Bluff played host to Dutch Fork Tuesday, followed by a road trip to Chapin Thursday and a visit to Dorman High School Friday for the Tournament of Champions.
Lexington opened region play with a 3-set win over the Lady Eagles. The final scores were 25-15, 25-18 and 25-19.
Smythe Dewar had nine kills, Bia Oxley had 10 digs, Mattie Lanhan had 13 assists and Riley Livingston finished with 10 assists.
BOYS VOLLEYBALL
The Gators are off to a 5-2 start in their first full season as a team.
In the first-ever meeting in the sport, River Bluff defeated Lexington in four sets (25-11, 25-16, 23-25, 25-11). It also has wins over Ridge View, Airport, Dreher and A.C. Flora.
