School District Five Announces Closure Due to Freezing Temperatures

School District Five of Lexington & Richland Counties will be closed on Thursday, January 23, 2025, due to continued freezing temperatures in the Midlands area and the potential for black ice on roadways. The National Weather Service has warned of hazardous conditions, particularly on untreated or secondary roads, through midday Thursday.

Schedule Adjustments

  • Closures:
    • All after-school childcare programs and extracurricular activities are canceled for Thursday.
    • Coaches and sponsors will contact teams and groups with rescheduling information.
  • Makeup Days:
    • March 17, 2025, will serve as a severe weather makeup day for this closure. Students and staff will report for in-person instruction.
    • February 17, 2025, will be an eLearning day for the previously announced closure on September 30, 2024, due to Hurricane Helene.

The district is reserving its fifth and final eLearning day for February 17 to ensure compliance with the 2024–2025 academic calendar.

Communication

Families and staff will be updated on any further changes through the district’s automated communication system, website, and social media platforms.
