IRMO, S.C. — The Irmo Middle School Honors Chorus has been selected to perform as a featured ensemble at the South Carolina Music Educators Association (SCMEA) Professional Development Conference in Columbia on February 5, 2027.
Irmo Middle School was one of numerous schools to submit performance recordings for consideration as a featured ensemble at the conference. A committee of music educators evaluates the recordings and selects the top groups to perform.
“To say I’m proud is truly an understatement,” said Irmo Middle School Choir Director Christopher Moore. “I push my students every day to be the very best versions of themselves, and to see their faces light up when I shared this news with them is a picture I know I’ll always have in my mind.”
Moore said the opportunity will allow the students to showcase the school’s choral program and represent the Irmo community.
“Getting to stand on that stage with my littles in February will be such a special opportunity to show the great things we have to offer here in Irmo,” he said. “I’m incredibly grateful for the mentorship I’ve received from my feeder school and from the school that feeds into us. I’m excited to represent our students, our program, and what we have to offer the choral community in Irmo.”
Roger Simpson, School District Five coordinator for Visual and Performing Arts, congratulated the students and Moore on the honor.
“We are excited to celebrate with the Irmo Middle School Honors Chorus on this invitation to perform at the South Carolina Music Educators Association In-Service Conference,” Simpson said. “This recognition is an incredible acknowledgment of the students’ dedication to musical excellence and achievement, as well as a reflection of the vision and instructional leadership of their director.”
