Shaelyn Hayes closed out her high school basketball career Saturday as a Most Valuable Player.

The White Knoll guard took top honors at the S.C. Basketball Coaches Association’s North-South All-Star Classic played at Brookland-Cayce High School. Hayes scored 13 points in the South’s 88-71 win over the North.

“It feels really good, really exciting,” said the still-uncommitted senior. “Thankful for my teammates handing me the ball.”

Hayes was one of four South players to finish in double figures. Ciara Mustapher of Stratford scored a team-high 14 points, Ella Mae Schapp of Oceanside Collegiate had 11 points and Dream Watson of Military Magnet finished with 10 points.

The boys game saw the North defeat the South 94-83. After Brookland-Cayce forward A.J. Edwards hit a 3-pointer to open the game, the North surged ahead with a 22-5 run to take the lead the rest of the game.

Brock Cherry of Wren finished with 15 points to earn North MVP honors. Roman Cooley of Greenville and Tyrek Wright of McBee each had 11 points and R.J. Hill of South Pointe finished with 10 points.

Yasir Cromer of River Bluff finished with eight points for the South.
