The newsletter on my work in Congress as the Representative for South Carolina’s Second District.
Coronavirus Resources
Our country is still working to recover from the pandemic and it is important to stay healthy and safe. Please continue following Centers for Disease Control (CDC) guidelines to help keep you, your family, and your friends protected against this disease. If you or your family have concerns about the coronavirus, please visit the CDC’s website or call 1-800-CDC-INFO.
There are also numerous resources from the South Carolina and Federal government to help. You can find a list of testing and vaccine resources on my website, here. This page is updated daily to ensure you and your family have what you need to stay safe and healthy.
Working to Save the Hyde Amendment
It is so important that we maintain the Hyde Amendment. So far, it has saved over 2 million lives. It’s also a matter of religious freedom which is critical. I will continue working with my colleagues on the Republican Study Committee in Congress to save the Hyde Amendment and millions of unborn lives with it.
Protecting Parris Island
This week I introduced the Parris Island Protection Act with Congressman Ralph Norman
and Congresswoman Nancy Mace which ensures that Parris Island will not be closed. Parris Island and its facilities provide unique value to South Carolina and the Marines, and I have no doubt that it can meet the standards set forth by the Fiscal Year 2020 National Defense Authorization Act.
Any proposals to close the base are misguided, especially given the facility’s significant economic impact and the thousands of jobs it provides for the State of South Carolina. I look forward to working with my colleagues in Congress and the Marine Corps to ensure that Parris Island remains open. Read our press release here.
School Choice Week
I am so grateful to support school choice. This week I introduced the Military Child Educational Freedom Act. Military families move frequently and sacrifice so much, they deserve the option of school choice which is why I introduced this important legislation
As part of School Choice Week, I stopped by South Carolina Virtual Charter School in West Columbia to meet with educators to discuss school choice and challenges they have overcome during the pandemic. I appreciate charter schools for continuously making a difference in the lives of children and families across our country.
