By Congressman Joe Wilson
I am grateful for the opportunity to begin the new year by touring the district and promoting my legislative focus areas for 2024.
Joined by city and county officials along the way, our stops included North Augusta, Aiken, West Columbia, and Barnwell. In each location, I spoke about the current challenges before us, reviewed key accomplishments in 2023, and shared highlights of my goals moving forward.
Under the policies of Biden and Democrats, Americans have suffered. As a result, our country has experienced unprecedented adversity.
Families continue to struggle with crippling inflation of consumer products and services, including inflation that reached a 40-year high.
The ongoing invasion of illegal aliens at our Southern Border is allowing terrorists, drug smugglers, and human traffickers to enter our country.
Energy independence has been replaced by energy dependence, increasing the price of gasoline.
Our children are being affected by the undermining of parental rights in schools.
Though challenges remain, my Republican colleagues and I have achieved significant wins on behalf of American families, including:
Passing the largest deficit reduction package in American history.
Passing the Secure the Border Act to address chaos at the border.
Passing the Parents’ Bill of Rights Act to ensure a parent’s right to make decisions about their child’s education.
Defunding the hiring of up to 87,000 new IRS agents.
Passing the Lower Energy Costs Act.
As we enter the new year, the following is just a sampling of specific issues and legislation in my 2024 Agenda (find here) that I will continue to support:
Promote fiscal responsibility by reducing government spending and cutting frivolous programs.
Boost domestic manufacturing to help small and family-owned businesses grow and create jobs.
Continue to advocate for current and future missions at the Savanah River Site (SRS).
Secure the border from invasion by illegals and terrorists.
Protect TRICARE benefits and sustain the quality of life for military families and retirees.
Deter military threats from war criminal Putin, the Chinese Communist Party, the Iranian regime, Hamas, and other aggressors.
House Republicans are committed to fighting for a strong economy, a nation that’s safe, a future that’s built on freedom, and a government that’s accountable to the American people.
Trip to the Southern Border
I recently joined Speaker Mike Johnson and Republican colleagues from 26 states and American Samoa, in visiting the Southern Border in Eagle Pass, Texas. What I witnessed and heard was madness.
Each month Border Patrol agents, county sheriffs, and Public Safety personnel are being overwhelmed with unaccompanied children and tens of thousands of aliens crossing illegally. Since January 2021, there have been over seven million illegal crossings at the Southern Border, including more than 300 on the terrorist watchlist, that we know of, and nearly two million illegal aliens who were not caught.
Biden’s policies to secure the border allow drug smugglers, human traffickers, and terrorists to enter our country, with terrorist attacks imminent anywhere in America, as warned by the FBI.
The current policies are madness and even New York Mayor Eric Adams warned that the crisis is destabilizing his city, which will destabilize America. All other countries make the effort to maintain control of their borders, but not America.
The Republican-led House passed the Secure the Border Act to stop destabilization. Now, Senate Democrats need to work with us to address this critical issue. Congress must maintain the border for the security of Americans.
Much remains to be done, but I am committed to the people of South Carolina’s Second District and will continue to work hard to keep us all safe, promote jobs, and help make our lives and communities stronger.
