The Chapin Police Department has been awarded $69,506.55 in grant funding through the South Carolina Department of Public Safety, Office of Highway Safety and Justice Programs.
The mission of the Chapin Police Department is to safeguard the lives and property of the people we serve, to reduce the incidence of crime, and to enhance public safety while working within the community to improve the quality of life in Chapin. In order to execute this mission, it is imperative that our officers receive quality training on a consistent basis and that they are provided with the necessary equipment to complete their jobs day in and day out.
One of the most important tools, in today’s society involving law enforcement, is the use of cameras, those worn by officers as well as in-car video. In an effort to seek out and fund the best equipment for the department, CPD recently applied for grant funding for these camera systems with the South Carolina Department of Public Safety. As of October 28, 2022, CPD received notice of a cash award in the amount of $18,270.45 for Body-Worn Cameras, as well as $51,236.10 for In-Car Video Cameras.
While the department is currently equipped with these items, this grant will allow CPD to purchase the most up-to-date equipment going forward.
