District Five student Chloe Coleman (Spring Hill High) has been named the Midlands Work-Based Learning (WBL) Student of the Year.
The SC Work-Based Learning Student of the Year award recognizes a student who exemplifies sound work-based practices while applying academia to real-life, real-work, and real-world situations in the business/industry environment. To be eligible for the award, a student must be nominated by the work-based learning coordinator or school representative that supervises the student.
Coleman is a second year student and intern in Welding Technology at the Center for Advanced Technical Studies. When she graduates, Coleman plans to attend Midlands Technical College where she will earn an Associate Degree in Welding Technology. Her goal is to become a certified combination welder to be proficient in all welding processes.
“Our goal at The Center is to make sure these students that want to learn a profession are well equipped with the certifications and the knowledge to help them navigate the real world,” The Center Assistant Director Roy Frick said. “Chloe has demonstrated confidence and discipline and hopes to mentor younger students about technical or trade focused fields.”
