Dutch Fork High School teacher Christopher Carroll has been selected as a 2025 Teacher of the Game honoree.
The program, presented by Palmetto Citizens Federal Credit Union in partnership with the University of South Carolina’s Gamecock Athletics, recognizes outstanding South Carolina educators during Gamecock football home games.
“Every graduation I attend reminds me of why this work matters,” Carroll said. “Having taught mostly seniors, I’ve already had the privilege of seeing former students return as young professionals, just starting their own careers. It’s a reminder that no matter the path someone takes, they need teachers along the way. I love that I get to be one of those teachers.”
Carroll was recognized on the scoreboard and loudspeakers during the University of South Carolina vs. Clemson University football game on November 29. In addition to the in-game recognition, he received a $1,000 award from Palmetto Citizens and four tickets to the game.
“Mr. Carroll represents everything we hope for in an educator at Dutch Fork High School,” said Reed Gunter, principal of Dutch Fork High School. “He understands the role a teacher can play in shaping a student’s future and commits to that responsibility with sincerity and purpose. His recognition as a Palmetto Citizens Teacher of the Game is well deserved.”
Launched in 2023, the Teacher of the Game program honors the essential role of South Carolina educators and reflects the mission and legacy of Palmetto Citizens. Founded nearly 90 years ago by Midlands-area educators as the Columbia Teachers Credit Union, Palmetto Citizens remains committed to education and community support.
If you want a shorter version for social media or a headline alternative, I can draft that as well.
