IRMO – There was little downtime over Spring Break for Dutch Fork High School astronomy instructor J.M. Cameron, who traveled to Suffern to attend the North American Astronomy Forum and Space Expo on April 11–12.
The event, considered the largest space and astronomy expo in the world, brought together leading experts, educators and enthusiasts from across the country. Highlights included appearances by Don Pettit and Hoot Gibson, along with solar viewing opportunities and planetarium shows.
During the forum, Cameron connected with scientists involved in both professional and amateur research workshops, focusing on topics such as Exoplanets, Sunspots and the Heliosphere.
Several researchers expressed interest in collaborating with Dutch Fork students, potentially allowing them to participate in ongoing scientific studies.
Cameron said the experience will have a lasting impact on his classes.
“It was a tremendous opportunity,” he said. “The connections made and knowledge gained will benefit our astronomy program both now and in the future.”
