Lexington-Richland School District Five teacher, Amy Medlock-Greene, has been selected from a national pool of applicants as one of thirty-six participants for Session I of the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) program “As Freedom Grows: Legacy of Early African American & the Gullah-Geechee People,” being held from July 10-16, 2022.
Medlock-Greene is a teacher at Dutch Fork High School, where she has taught English and Journalism for the past 26 years.
“National Endowment for the Humanities summer programs have been some of the most rewarding experiences of my professional career,” Medlock-Greene said. “I am honored to be chosen to participate in this NEH Landmarks of American History workshop, as its focus on the Gullah-Geechee will benefit both my instruction and my students’ learning in all of my classes–most notably in English 3 and Fundamentals of Film.”
Medlock-Green was chosen from more than 180 applicants from 38 different states, 129 different cities and metro areas, and many different disciplines and specialties: librarians, teachers, and administrators from public, private, charter, and religious schools and all manner of subjects from history to STEM to art and English and more

We are excited for her to bring back her experience in cultural diversity, specifically connected with South Carolina history back to Dutch Fork.”
The National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) is an independent federal agency created in 1965. The NEH supports research and learning in history, literature, philosophy, and other areas of the humanities by funding selected, peer-reviewed proposals from around the nation.
