District Five high school becomes an authorized International Baccalaureate (IB) Career-related Programme

Irmo High School International School for the Arts is now authorized to offer the International Baccalaureate Career-related Progarmme (IBCP).

The IB Career-related Programme Magnet is a partnership between Irmo High School and the Center for Advanced Technical Studies (The Center) and is an academically rigorous program that combines rigorous IB Diploma courses with authentic Career and Technical Education (CATE) opportunities in high-demand careers in South Carolina including: Aerospace Engineering, Biomedical Science, Culinary Arts, Media Technology and Film, and Veterinary Sciences.

“We are thrilled to expand our IB offerings to include the Career-related Programme because it was developed specifically for students who wish to engage in career-related learning while gaining transferable and lifelong skills in applied knowledge, critical thinking, communication, and cross-cultural engagement,” said Irmo High School principal Dr. Robin Hardy. “Indeed, this is a most exciting time to be a student at Irmo High School!”

Dr. Al Gates, Director of Career and Technical Education at The Center added, “The Center is fortunate to be named a partner with Irmo High School International School for the Arts. The IBCP will allow students to participate in world class content courses at Irmo High as well as state-of-the-art Career and Technical Education courses at The Center. IBCP encourages academic strength though practical, real-world approaches to learning. The program develops skills and competencies required for lifelong learning. We are excited about this partnership with Irmo High!”

As an IB World School offering the IB Career-related Programme, Irmo High School and The Center are part of a global community of schools committed to developing knowledgeable, caring young people who will be ready to negotiate their futures successfully and make contributions resulting in a more harmonious and peaceful world.

“This is quite an accomplishment for Irmo High School International School for the Arts.
