The DriftJam Flotilla Music Festival brought out hundreds of boaters on Saturday, June 1, as the waterways were slam packed around Spence Island on Lake Murray. The six year old annual festival has become a summer event and helps support military and first responders. 9/11 Remembrance Foundation of SC was this year’s recipient.
Years ago, the ‘Pirates of Lake Murray’ formed and promoted the ‘ReggaeFest’ which brought reggae island music to Lake Murray. Bomb Island played host to the event a few times and in the fall of 2013, Doug Gainey Promotions began promoting the idea of different genre bands and a stage that could only be accessed by water. This brought the event to a new level and new home off Spence Island. Driftjam teams up with local charities to give back to the community.
