Dutch Fork Elementary recognized Nationally Certified Magnet School

Dutch Fork Elementary Academy of Environmental Sciences has officially been recognized as a 2025 Nationally Certified Magnet School by Magnet Schools of America (MSA).

“I am incredibly proud of the hard work and dedication shown by all Dutch Fork Elementary School teachers, staff, and students,” Dutch Fork Elementary School Principal Rebecca Dilley said. “Through the support and collaboration of our SIC, we are excited to have our certification restored and to be stronger than ever. We often say that we are ‘All in…Together, and earning our certification is a perfect reflection of that shared commitment.”

The national certification process is based on the Standards of Excellence and the five pillars of magnet schools: diversity, innovative curriculum and professional development, academic excellence, high-quality instructional systems, and family and community partnerships. Together, these qualities define the common elements of exemplary magnet programs.

Dutch Fork Elementary Academy of Environmental Sciences provides a program which includes inquiry-based, hands-on studies of the environment all around us. Students are immersed in an environment that emphasizes discovery and exploration, collaborative study, scientific research, use of scientific tools and technology, and a strong sense of community. The school is a SC Certified Green Steps School and in the spring of 2019, was awarded a Green Ribbon by the U.S. Department of Education and now is recognized as a Green Ribbon School, the first to receive this recognition in South Carolina.

“The certification process recognizes the highest quality schools in public education,” School District Five Magnet Director Sara Wheeler said. “Nationally certified magnet schools illustrate and emulate rigorous theme-based curriculum, ensure diverse settings in which students thrive and are prepared for the future. Being recognized as a Nationally Certified Magnet School is a tremendous honor and accomplishment.”

Dutch Fork Elementary School Academy of Environmental Sciences will be recognized during a ceremony held at Magnet Schools of America’s National Conference in San Diego, California April 13-17.
