Volunteers and members of local American Legion Posts teamed up with Wreaths Across America to place Remembrance Wreaths at 10 church cemeteries across the Midlands.
The event began with an opening ceremony at Chapin Christian Community Church at noon on December 14. Afterward, volunteers placed wreaths at cemeteries of the following churches:
- Chapin Christian Community Church
- Mt. Zion Baptist Church
- St. John AME Church
- St. Francis of Assisi Episcopal Church
- St. Thomas Lutheran Church
- Mt. Olivet Lutheran Church
- Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church
- Lake Murray Presbyterian Church
- St. Peter’s Lutheran Church
- Mt. Horeb Lutheran Church
The wreaths honored veterans from all military branches who gave their lives in service to the country. During the ceremony, each veteran’s name was read aloud in tribute.
Wreaths Across America is a nonprofit organization that began with wreath-laying ceremonies at Arlington National Cemetery. It now organizes similar events across the country every holiday season.
