Terry Govan, a former deputy with a long-standing tenure in law enforcement, is facing legal troubles after being accused of driving under the influence and engaging in a hit-and-run incident on Tuesday night, as reported by the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
The authorities apprehended Govan, 52, at his residence following the crash near the entrance of his subdivision. Fortunately, no injuries were reported in the collision.
In response to the incident, Lexington County Sheriff Jay Koon promptly terminated Govan from his position as deputy on Tuesday night. Govan had been a member of the force since 2001.
After the arrest, Govan was booked into the Lexington County Detention Center on Tuesday night. However, he was released on Wednesday after appearing before a magistrate judge.
