Lake Murray Elementary School (LMES) is undergoing a colorful transformation thanks to the hard work of the Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) and the generosity of Lake Murray Elementary families. Funds raised during this year’s Captain’s Craze fundraiser have helped make big improvements around the school, with some of the most exciting changes happening in Rainbow Island, the hub of LMES.

Renowned local artist Michael Geddings has given Rainbow Island a fresh new look with two breathtaking murals featuring the Lake Murray Dam and Bomb Island, showcasing the beauty and spirit of the Lake Murray community. Making this project even more special, fourth-grade students had the chance to leave their mark by helping paint parts of the mural alongside Geddings.
But the transformation isn’t over yet! Students shared their vision for Rainbow Island, insisting that it should feel like a real island—so it will! A small island with a tree will soon be installed to bring their vision to life. To complete the space, a Chihuly-inspired student art installation will be added, bringing color and creativity to highlight the name Rainbow Island and celebrate the artistic talents of the Lake Murray Elementary students.
The school makeover extends beyond Rainbow Island. The LMES playground got a major upgrade with the addition of a Gaga Pit, giving students a new space to play and compete in this popular game. The Gaga Pit has quickly become a student favorite, providing plenty of fun and exercise.
Thanks to the dedication of the PTO and the support of the LMES community, these improvements are helping to make Lake Murray Elementary an even more exciting place to learn and grow. And with more surprises still to come, the future is looking brighter than ever!
