Republican Catherine Huddle says she’ll serve no more than eight years if she wins the June 14 Republican Primary for the District 85 State House seat.
Term limits for lawmakers are at the top of a list of conservative reforms Huddle says she’ll push for as a member of the House.
“I believe in term limits, and I’ll set the right example by limiting my own time in office,” she said. “Term limits would help bring new ideas and fresh perspectives to the Legislature, and they’d keep lawmakers from becoming career politicians.
“Career politicians are at the root of many of our state’s problems, because they tend to oppose conservative reforms.”
Legislative term limits have gained traction in South Carolina the past few years. In 2018, term limits legislation passed a state Senate subcommittee for the first time ever.
