School Jazz Bands Earn Top Honors

The Chapin High School and Dutch Fork High School jazz bands earned Superior Ratings at the South Carolina Band Directors Association Jazz Performance Assessment, held March 7 at Newberry College.

Chapin High School’s Bryson Couto was recognized as Best Soloist for his performance on the baritone saxophone.

Dutch Fork High School Jazz Foxes member Wallace Reid was also named Best Soloist, while David Hardaway Frazier received an Honorable Mention.

“The students showed up and performed a great concert for the judges and earned this recognition,” said Dutch Fork Band Director Joe Miller. “I couldn’t be more proud of the progress they have made and their commitment to getting better at jazz. It was a lot of hard work that paid off, giving us a really special day.”
