Two students from Lexington-Richland School District Five have been named Carolina Master Scholars and were recognized during a special ceremony at the University of South Carolina.
Zoe Starr (Irmo High) and Luke Vismara (Spring Hill High School) were part of the seventeenth graduating class earning the designation Carolina Master Scholar for their successful completion of at least three Adventure Series courses. The Carolina Master Scholar Adventure Series is a summer academic program for academically talented or gifted rising 6th-12th graders. Twenty-three middle and high school students across the country took the program at the UofSC over the summer to earn the distinction of Carolina Master Scholar.
Carolina Master Scholars is a highly selective program for gifted and talented students,” said Virginia Tate, School District Five coordinator of gifted programs and visual & performing arts programs. “Selected students take part in rigorous study and get to experience college life. Students who are selected have demonstrated success in the classroom and beyond.”
As a result of their accomplishments, the students were recognized by the UofSC Alumni Association and given a special certificate from the University.
Students completed courses ranging from Forensic Science, Physics, Medicine: Ultrasound, Health Sciences, Vex Robotics, Creative Writing, Pharmacy, Graphic/Digital Design, Aviation-Learn to Fly, Be a Pilot, Computer Gaming, Business-Entrepreneurship, Aerospace, Extraordinary Chemistry, Information Technology, Electrical Engineering, Natural Hazards & Civil Engineering, 3D Printing, Animatronics Diorama, Engineering, and Law & Crime.
The program will offer a wide variety of weeklong academic courses again this summer in 2020 and online registration opens in January 2020.
