The start of the Coastal Plain League season is still three months away.
However, the Lexington County Blowfish remains active in their involvement in community activities. This past week’s luncheon at the VIP room saw co-owner Bill Shanahan talked about the number of upcoming events they will co-sponsor.
It begins at noon Sunday with the rescheduled 11th annual Lexington County Chili Cookoff at the Icehouse Amphitheater. Co-sponsored by the Blowfish and Old Mill Brewpub, attendees will be able to sample from more than 25 teams from throughout the local area.
“We provide the spoons; you provide the appetite!” Old Mill Brewpub owner and chili cookoff founder John Clinger stated. “This is a great family event in the Town of Lexington you won’t want to miss, so be sure to bring your friends and an appetite for great-tasting chili!”
Proceeds from the Cookoff will go to the Town of Lexington Police Foundation and other Lexington County charitable organizations. Advanced tickets are $15 and $5 for children under 12 years of age.
The following Sunday, the Blowfish will hold its 10th annual Shamrock Parade in downtown Lexington. A procession of Irish dancers, musical bands, floats, and pageant winners will roll down Main Street starting at 3 p.m.
Fort Jackson Commanding General Maj. Gen. Darryl Hood will serve as Grand Marshall and the 282nd Army Band will also take part in the parade. O’Hara’s co-owners Matt and Michele O’Hara will be Mr. and Mrs. Shamrock.
An application to participate in both events is available at www.blowfishbaseball.com.
Lexington County opens the season May 29 at the Florence Flamingos. The Blowfish will play their home opener the following night against the Macon Bacon.
