School District Five holds Groundbreaking Ceremony at Lake Murray Elementary

IRMO – Lexington-Richland School District Five held a Groundbreaking Ceremony for a new classroom wing addition at Lake Murray Elementary School on August 6.

The new wing is being added to help accommodate the new educational structure the district is implementing in 2026. The construction will replace 16 portables at the school and contain 18 classrooms, adding about 432 seats. This will allow the school to be able to increase their maximum capacity.

“This is huge for Lake Murray Elementary School and is such a huge milestone for our students,” Lake Murray Elementary School Principal Kristen Eubanks said. “This new classroom wing addition will allow us to impact more students moving forward in a nice facility. Students will continue to receive the state-of-the-art education they are used to getting here at our amazing school. This groundbreaking represents progress and ensures that our students continue to receive the very best.”

A project of the 2024 Bond Referendum, the new 20,000 sq. ft. classroom wing at the school will enhance school safety by bringing all students into the building in secure classrooms.

“This project is made possible by the community and delivered for the community,” Superintendent Dr. Akil E. Ross, Sr. said. “These new classrooms are the progress that will come to this site. Our children will continue to learn and grow in a new space that will impact generations to come. We thank our partners, we thank our Board, voters and we thank our families for choosing to be a part of School District Five. We are excited about this new project and look forward to cutting the ribbon when the new wing is complete.”
